Glen Plake

When I think about Oakley, skateboarding rarely comes to mind. I still associate them with Glen Plake and that Thermonuclear Protection campaign. my tunnel vision still tells me - sunglasses. Ahh the good old days. But as things go forward, everyone gravitates towards money - skateboarding is again in the limelight and here we have Oakley's first sk8 vid, Our Life. (I'm pretty sure this is their first sk8 flick.)

Starting off with Lutzka skating to the Rolling Stones, one has to wonder how much it costs to get Mick, Keith and the boys to provide background music. Quite a lot I'd imagine. But this vid is very well styled and contains some great skating. Oakley lets it's team shine without corporate endorsements floating all over the screen. Aside from the DVD's cover, you'd never even know Oakley was associated with it.

They make great products (this DVD being one of them) and there really isn't any need to splash their logo all over. They did a nice job creating a cool sk8 vid. After Lutzka, Dave Bachinski has a part in Lowell, MA along with a lot of bad weather. Next, Rune is in Copenhagen Denmark and Chris Senn skates Kona Hawaii.

Fabrizio started skating in his hometown of Aracaju in Brazil and takes us back to his stomping ground for his part. Andrew Pott skates Inglewood, CA telling how skating saved him from joining local gangs. Next up is Ryan Sheckler who can seemingly skate anything anywhere - damn kids! Finally, Bob Burnquist skates San Paulo and talks about how skateboarding has afforded him a life in which he can fly planes, parachute out of them and build mega ramps on his own ranch. Ahh the good life. It's good to be Bob.

The movie features music by The Rolling Stones, Wolfmother, Spoon, Cat Power, Earth Wind & Fire and more. A cool DVD feature is the "loop play" option. This lets you start it up and play over and over. Toss on your favorite CD, crank it up and let Our Life run in the background. FYI - this is also a good way to watch porn.
