Keith Hufnagel.
This review of DVS' Keith Hufnagel is based on the promotional DVD available for free from your local skate shop.
Regardless of the price (free - which I like very much) this is an awesome video on several levels. It's a promotional DVD from the shoe-guys at DVS. Naturally, it's to promote their brand - which it does very well with out plastering a logo all over or chronic commercial interruptions. It's also a lot of fun to watch and showcases Hufnagel's personality, skating and business acumen.
Have you ever noticed that skaters in most videos tend to lose their identity outside of skateboarding, to those watching the video? Skaters are people too with varied interests, lives and skills outside of skating. Creativity is the lifeblood of skateboarding, but rarely are viewers given any insight into these athletes. They're skaters... so they skate. Maybe I'm just a weirdo and like to know a little bit about the person behind the skater. I think more should be done to showcase the rider's personality as well as skating. DVS did a great job in presenting Hufnagel in a well-rounded kinda way.
He left NY in ‘92 for college in San Francisco to be in a skate-centric city, but went back to NY afterwards. With an itch for skateboarding he set out for LA to be in the heart of the industry. He opened his Huf Boutique in San Francisco which has created a buzz around his Huf brand of shoes and streetwear.
Check out this version of his part from the 2005 DVS video, Skate More. This is where we get to see him rip.
Classic skating from a kid during an era that has passed. This is such a cool idea. I'd dig seeing other pro's first video captures and sponsor me footy.
While there is no bonus footy, the disc is free so it's all a bonus of sorts. but it has a lot of cool skating and will keep your interest and motivate you to skate and try to build a career that keeps skating a part of your earning-time.
