If you take life too seriously, it'll take you. Skateboarding has proven that over the years. It helps to have a sense of humor about things and not be overly dick-ish about things. Debbie Does Blockhead starts out with Laban's awesome Terminator 2 reenactment complete with a bad accent (á là Arnold) and set to George Thorogood's Bad To The Bone. He rides away on a whacky chopper bicycle with a toy gun strapped to the frame. Classic.
The early 90's was an interesting time to be skating. A lot of changes were happening both in skateboard design and riding styles. Vert was bowing out to street and wide decks were slimming down to popsicle sticks. Still companies were out there doing their thing - skating. And documenting it. And lets not forget about the fashion of the time. Big clothes ruled the world!
At 25 minutes, Debbie Does Blockhead has a kick-ass rock and roll soundtrack, entertaining skits and skaters actually skated in shorts. Y'all need to ditch those tight-ass jeans and relax a bit. The skating is a blast to watch and will remind you of how much skateboarding changes, yet oddly stays the same in some respects. There's also a Beastie Boys lip-synch segment that's pretty damn funny. Snag this DVD - it's definitely worth a watch.
Debbie Does Dallas is a 1978 pornographic movie starring Bambi Woods and Christie Ford (appearing under the name of Misty Winter). The plot of the film focuses on a team of cheerleaders attempting to earn enough money to send the title character to Dallas, Texas, to try out for the famous 'Texas Cowgirls' cheerleading squad. The fictional name "Texas Cowgirls" was seen as a take on the real-life Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Each girl finds that she can make extra money during her after school job by having a sexual encounter with her employer. Contrary to the title, the film is not set in Dallas nor does the eponymous Debbie "do" anyone in or from Dallas. The movie spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs including Debbie Does New Orleans, Debbie Does Wall Street and Debbie Does Dallas Again.
