Can you smell that stench of mediocrity?
It's the rancid smell of inferiority and you'll find it at sporting goods stores, toy stores, discount store, mall stores and anywhere you see cheap-ass skateboards. Those cheap putrid skateboards they sell for $20 are enough to make you vomit.
If you see a heap of puke, you walk around it or away from it. Treat inferior skateboard equipment the same way! Run away. Just because it's sitting on the shelf, doesn't mean it won't break and cause a serious injury ten minutes after you buy it.
Only your local skateboard shop sells quality equipment. They know the industry and it's products. When was the last time you asked a Wal-Mart clerk for product advice? Go to your independent skate shop for all your skateboard needs. They'll hook you up with top-notch product that will enable you to progress and develop as a skater.
Those other stores only want your money!
Uninformed skaters/consumers need your help. You can lend a hand and help support local skate shops by downloading these SYLSS "Crappy Skateboard" WARNING LABELS (4-up PDF files) and stick 'em on those crappy products you encounter in the mall, discount stores, toy stores and sporting goods stores.
Only independent skateboard shops sell quality products that won't break or fall apart in the first 10 minutes of use. Boards purchased from crappy department stores and gluttonous box-stores are unsafe and will usually result in unnecessary injuries.
Your local skate shop is the only place that cares about you and ensuring you get high quality equipment. Department stores, toy stores and sporting goods stores only want your money. Independent skate shops want to keep you as a customer by helping you get the best products available.
