Cytherea was born on the 27th of September 1981 in Salt Lake City, the most populous city in the state of Utah. Little is known about her early life or her real name (which she never uses in videos, instead choosing to use a psuedonym referencing Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love). Despite the unknowns about what she did before getting involved with the industry, Cytherea speaks freely in interviews of humorous incidents when she first experienced anal sex (blacking out whilst having intercourse) and female ejaculation (being embarrassed due to the thought that both she and her sexual partner at the time thought it was urine, an incident which is somewhat ironic considering that fact that squirting has now become her trademark). Around 2003, she left Utah and moved to Las Vegas in Nevada, one of the two main heartlands of the porn industry in the US (along with California, the one state where it is explicitly legal to shoot porn), once there she created a community and mailing list using the Yahoo! Groups service dedicated to erotic pictures and videos (mainly nude, with some being glamour work or featuring masturbation) of herself while also working at a restuarant belonging to the Wendy's franchise. The group has since ceased to be run by Cytherea and is no longer available - partly due to Yahoo! increasing the number of restrictions and regulations on their groups system, although numerous unofficial groups have been created and continually post her most recent or famous works. It was due to her exposure on the internet that she was spotted by an agent who had contacts within the adult industry and offered her a first taste of what work within mainstream pornography was like.

Cytherea's first feature in an wide-release adult movie was a scene in the Wildlife distributed 'I've Never Done That Before 14', released in 2003. It was directed by Tyce Bune, a veteran of over seven-hundred titles, who also appeared in three of the five scenes in the video (alongside Cytherea, Raven Alexander, and Karley London. The remaining two scenes were girl/girl). This initial release granted her huge exposure, and within the following twelve months she appeared in over sixty more videos, including titles for famed production houses such as Jill Kelly Productions (Ashton's Auditions), Hustler (Barely Legal 40), Zero Tolerance (Blow Me Sandwich 4) and New Sensations (College Invasion 3, part of what was to become the Shane's World College Invasion Franchise) among others. Her performances in these high profile videos led to over 200 appearances by 2006, with the number of scenes that she has been in for online production companies uncounted but widely estimated to take this number to over 300, while still growing exponentially. Her future in the industry looks very bright, and it is undoubted that the number of movies per year she is appearing in will continue to grow as her profile and image becomes more widely known throughout fans of both internet sites and the video releases.
