Taco Pop-Shuvits

Create themed taco-like snacks using cookie-cutters (Halloween, Xmas, etc...) to create the desired shapes. Make a batch as an appetizer or bake a crap-load (double or triple the ingredients) and serve them as the entree. The total cooking time is 12 minutes and makes about 15 taco-like things.

Ingredients (main):

  • 1 tbs. vegetable oil (or any type of cooking spray)
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ lb. ground turkey
  • ½ tsp. dried oregano
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • 1 package (15 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1/3 cup chopped tomato
  • 1/3 cup shredded cheese

If you feel adventurous and want to delve into the Martha Stewart-esque theme of choice, you can also mix up some colors to apply to the outside of your tacos.

Ingredients (optional paint):

  • 4 egg yokes, divided
  • 4 tsp water
  • liquid food coloring

Other Stuff You'll Need

  • 1 baking sheet or pan
  • 1 cookie cutter (or more, if you want to be less boring)
  • 1 large skillet
  • Rolling pin (or make-shift equivalent - like a full can of beer)
  • Small bowls and an egg beater » if you choose to paint the outsides.

  1. Chop up your onion.
  2. Heat oil (or cooking spray) on medium heat.
  3. Add the onion and cook until tender (a few minutes)
  4. Add turkey stir occasionally and cook until turkey is no longer pink.
  5. Stir in Oregano and chili powder.
  6. Set aside while preparing the other stuff.

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll the pie crust slightly wider (in diameter) than it already is. Don't make it too thin.
  2. Using cookie-cutters, cut out pairs of shapes from the pie crust. Each pair will be a "top" and "bottom" for each taco-thang.
  3. Place "bottom" pieces on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  4. Spoon about a tablespoon of the taco mixture onto each piece.
  5. Sprinkle each with tomato and cheese.
  6. Place the "top" pieces and press edges to seal.

Optional egg yolk paint:

  1. Place 1 egg yolk in each of 4 bowls.
  2. Into each bowl add 1 teaspoon of water and 1 to 3 drops of desired food coloring.
  3. Beat lightly.
  4. Decorate with egg yolk paint.

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Listen to AC†DC.
